Absentative

The absentative marker is also used in Mi'gmaq. Absentative markers are used when the person the speaker is talking about is either deceased or not present. This is primary used for those not present whom the speaker has not see for a long time and not someone the speaker has seen, for example, yesterday. This is used with the past tense -p marker.


Nemijgamij-aq teluisi-p-naq Sa'n-aq. my.grandfather-ABS is.called-DIR-ABS Sa'n-ABS \trans My grandfather's name was Sa'n.
