The direct evidential marks for information acquired firsthand; the indirect marks for information acquired through means other than the firsthand. Note that it has been argued that Mi'gmaq, an Eastern Algonquian language, has three evidentiality markers---direct, indirect, and deferential evidential markers (Inglis, 2003).
